Quick Review: Paludan Bogcafe, Copenhagen

Paludan Bogcafe was a frequently mentioned restaurant when I searched online for a cosy and affordable meal in Copenhagen. A favourite with students, this price conscious establishment was located within a ten minute walk from our Airbnb when we visited one Saturday evening.

It was very busy when we went inside, but we easily found a seat near the back. As was standard in most Copenhagen restaurants there were candles absolutely everywhere, casting a warm glow across the whole area.

It was a beautifully designed restaurant in an effortlessly non-designed way. There were two separate rooms, the larger one had a home-grown library feel with wooden fixtures and thick books lining the floor to ceiling shelves. The other room had a more traditional cafe feel and was where you could order the items from the point of sale. It felt very cosy and lived in and I could see why this was a popular hangout spot with students.

I ordered a chicken pesto dish for 99,00 DKK / 11.77 GBP, my bf ordered the salmon spinach pasta for 109,00 DKK / 12.95 GBP and we both had a chai latte for 30,00 DKK / 3.57 GBP each. The total came to 268,00 DKK / 31.85 GBP

Quick Review: Paludan Bogcafe

I liked that the chicken pesto portions were large, it wasn’t over creamy and it was very filling. However there were very few chunks of chicken, the tagliatelle could be firmer and it just wasn’t my kind of dish. The chicken was an odd taste where there was a hint of cheese and it wasn’t dry nor was it juicy.

The salmon spinach pasta tasted much better; the salmon was flavoursome, the sauce delicious and the vegetables refreshing. The portions were once again fantastic. The chai lattes were very warming and not too strong.

Bogcafe is a very affordable option in the middle of expensive Copenhagen with a lovely and warm atmosphere. Although its food was a bit of a hit or miss to this was more linked to my particular tastes and wariness of creamy food, so ultimately this is a medium recommendation from me.
