Quick Review: Alfredo’s Italian Restaurant in Conwy, Wales

Quick Review: Alfredo’s Italian Restaurant in Conwy, Wales

I don’t know about you but the first food I most associate with Wales is Spaghetti.

This isn’t true, but I did have my first Welsh meal at the Italian restaurant Alfredo’s in Conwy.

Alfredo’s was located a few minutes away from our guesthouse in the heart of Conwy and is located by its bright white sign.

This popular restaurant required booking and was as packed as much as Covid restrictions allowed when we ran in from the torrential rain.

The furnishings were charmingly old fashioned in an Italian style with red carpeting, wooden furniture and checkered table cloths.

Torrential rain

It had a very low key and comfortable atmosphere with the low lighting and murmur of conversation between what sounded like regulars.

I ordered a Spaghetti Marinara which is spaghetti tossed in tomato sauce with tuna, prawns, mussels and anchovies (£11.50) whilst my partner ordered the Bistecca Boscaiola which is a grilled sirloin steak in a red wine sauce with tomato, garlic, mushrooms and onions (18.95).

For drinks we had a Jack Daniels and coke and a lemonade.

Our meals came speedily from the friendly waitress and arrived with generous side dishes of chips and vegetables.

It was difficult to finish it all because of the huge portions and additional extras, but we managed it since the spaghetti was seasoned exactly to my taste (not too strong a flavour with fresh and piping hot seafood), and the steak was super juicy if a bit rarer than requested.

Our dessert was soft and creamy tiramisu with a strong kick of caffeine (£4.50) which we were mistakenly charged twice for, but this was offset with the drinks that weren’t listed for some reason.

I only found this out after the fact when reviewing our receipts back home, so we didn’t fix it at the time and our total came to £45.90 including service charge.

Alfredo’s is a simple restaurant offering traditional Italian food done well and at an affordable price. Just remember to check your receipts.
